A new chapter in junior cycling begins as Watts Occurring Racing prepares for its first season in 2027.

Watts Occurring Racing is gearing up for its debut season, with six talented junior riders set to represent the team across the UK and Europe in 2027.

Created through a collaboration between the Watts Occurring Podcast and Maindy Flyers, the Cardiff-based team brings together two familiar names in cycling with a shared ambition: to create opportunities for the next generation of young riders.

The aim is simple. To give talented young cyclists the support, experience and opportunities they need to develop, both on and off the bike.

Meet the 2027 Squad

The team's inaugural six-rider squad features Harry Cooper, Sam Farquhar, Hedd Griffiths, Matthew Holmes, Talan Jones and Cameron Reeves.

Each rider arrives with their own experiences and ambitions, but all share the opportunity to be part of something new.

The focus will be on development, teamwork and learning, with a programme designed to challenge the riders and prepare them for the demands of junior racing.

Racing Across the UK and Europe

The 2027 race programme will combine the British National Junior Road Series with an ambitious selection of international events.

The team is targeting races in France, Belgium and Ireland, including the prestigious Junior Tour of Ireland.

Racing internationally will expose the riders to different courses, larger fields and new challenges. Just as importantly, it will provide experiences that help them grow in confidence, independence and resilience.

While results will always matter in competitive sport, the success of the project will be measured just as much by the progress each rider makes throughout the season.

Built on Strong Foundations

The collaboration brings together the reach and experience of the Watts Occurring Podcast, hosted by Geraint Thomas and Luke Rowe, with the grassroots cycling heritage of Maindy Flyers.

For decades, Maindy Flyers has introduced young people to cycling and helped develop riders who have gone on to compete at the highest levels of the sport.

Watts Occurring Racing builds on that foundation, creating another opportunity for young riders to progress from youth cycling into the demanding world of junior road racing. Behind the riders is a dedicated team of coaches, volunteers and supporters committed to making the project a success.

Partners Behind the Team

An ambitious racing programme would not be possible without the support of organisations who believe in investing in young riders.

Uprise Bikes joins as principal partner, alongside support from Tyre Glider, Waterton Motor Group, Rapha, SunGod, QUOC, KASK and Precision Fuel & Hydration.

Their involvement will help provide the equipment, resources and practical support needed to deliver the team's first season.

The Journey Starts Here

With the squad selected, the team's first kit unveiled and preparations underway, attention now turns to winter training and the opening races of 2027. There will be plenty of challenges along the way, but that's part of what makes the opportunity so valuable.

For these six riders, the coming season is about more than race results. It's about gaining experience, developing as athletes and making the most of an opportunity to race together at a higher level.

Six riders. One team. A new opportunity.

The launch of Watts Occurring Racing has also attracted attention from the wider cycling community.

In October 2026, The British Continental featured the new team, exploring the collaboration between Watts Occurring and Maindy Flyers and the ambitions behind the project.
